Bass Performance (5 days) provides technical skills, musical knowledge and performing experience that prepares students for a wide range of professional and creative opportunities as performing musicians. Bass Performance instruction includes all aspects of theory and musicianship for the electric bass, playing techniques for finger and slap styles, exposure to various grooves like rock, funk, shuffles, swing, odd-meter, Afro-Cuban, country, fretboard basics covering triads, chords, scales, harmonies, arpeggios includes music theory, ear training, music history, and understanding of different styles, reading fundamentals for the bass clef, with rhythmic subdivisions, pitch identification, string positions, performance classes to fine-tune listening skills, stage presence, experience with chart reading and band interaction. Repertoire draws from simple contemporary pieces and melodies accompanied with chords. Mastery of the material will be demonstrated through written assignments. Every day class attendance and daily practice (2 hours) are expected. This course is designed for students who wish to develop contemporary music performance skills. Regardless of your ability level, you'll get plenty out of the programme, although we do recommend you have a minimum of six months’ playing experience to fully benefit.
