ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Study at School of Contemporary Music

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS   

All applicants who wish to study at School of Contemporary Music (SCM) College will be considered on an individual basis. For any of our courses, evidence of formal educational attainment is required. 

The entry requirements available to all applicants will depend on which course you are applying for. Offers will be made to applicants who are expected to meet, or exceed the entry requirements below;

 

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

BACHELOR DEGREE, DIPLOMA, CERTIFICATE, AWARD FOUNDATION, AND FIRST AWARD IN MUSIC PERFORMANCE

 

Minimum requirements: Students must have passed at least Five GCSE's subjects including English Language. We welcome applicants that have studied the arts or performance or hold A Level/BTEC qualifications, or equivalent or relevant industry experience with interest in gospel music. Musical competency evidenced by grade achievement (Grade 6) or equivalent, theory competence at (Grade 5) or equivalent.

 

(Non-native English speaking students need to meet our English language requirement of IELTS 5.5 or equivalent).

 

MATURE STUDENTS

As an education provider, School of Contemporary Music (SCM) College looks for students who are excited about the music industries.

 

For applications from mature students, we also consider qualifications, life experience, motivation, interests, and employment. In such cases, School of Contemporary Music (SCM) College requires applicants to provide satisfactory evidence of their ability to successfully complete the programme. More information below.

 

ALL APPLICANTS WILL BE EXPECTED TO AUDITION.

The audition will include performance, aural, instrumental technique, sight reading, and Music Theory. Applicants must demonstrate an appropriate level of instrumental performance skills in order to be eligible for entry onto our programme.

ALTERNATIVE ENTRY ROUTES

​

We welcome applicants with relevant professional and vocational qualifications, or mature students (18+) who do not have formal qualifications but may have relevant experience in music industry. We also welcome those thinking about thinking about transferring from another institution.

We also consider your ability to undertake academic study and to succeed and benefit from your chosen course. Increasing numbers of people attend college to develop their careers, learn new skills or to enjoy a stimulating course of study. We want to encourage more.

 

We welcome mature students from diverse professions, include those who have started a course after raising a family or they may have left school with no formal qualifications.

 

ENGLISH LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS

​

You need to achieve a certain level of English to qualify for a place on your chosen course. Students whose first language is not English will need a qualification that demonstrates competence in English.

 

Students whose first language is not English must demonstrate Common European Framework of Reference for Languages Certificate (CEFR), Level B2 English language competence by providing a recent secure English language test (SELT) from an approved test provider. Applicants must achieve at least CEFR level B2 in all four components (speaking, listening, reading and writing).

 

EU/EEA Applicants

​

Equivalent qualifications can be accepted, where these qualifications have been verified and are adopted widely within the HE sector in the UK.

 

Non EU/EEA Applicants

​

For Non EU/EEA applicants we currently accept the following qualifications for admission into our courses:

 

Secure English Language Tests (SELT) Approved Test Providers

Cambridge English Language Assessment: IELTS for UKVI**

(You must specify this form when you register for your IELTS test. It is now the only version UKVI will accept.)

Trinity College London: Integrated Skills in English II

 

Tests for visa purposes can only be taken at approved centres and the centre must follow procedures specified by the UK government.
