The Keyboard/Piano applies SCM’s unique style of gospel & contemporary music education to an instrument that is both traditional and leading-edge. The Keyboard program combines keyboard skills, live performance and innovative technology to prepare a foundation for careers on the concert stage and in the recording studio. Develop stylistic vocabulary and live playing skills under the guidance of some of gospel’s best professional keyboard players, then learn to create your own arrangements and productions. SCM’s unique environment extends beyond the classroom with concerts, seminars, and opportunities for creative collaboration and networking.

Aims

To offers a contemporary and gospel approach experience with integrative curriculum for today’s complete keyboardist/pianist.

• Combining knowledge of contemporary styles and leadership skills with a solid foundation of music theory and technique.

• Arranging and composing, improvising, rehearsing and directing a band, sight-reading

• Learn integrative, real-time approach in weekly forums, culminating in a personal project and final recital.

• Prepares you for the music industry and what goes beyond school.

• Learn Music Technology, Music Business and Marketing Skills, essential to today’s entrepreneurial artists.

For duration of study, students will experience music as both performer and listener. This broad approach provides students with opportunities to develop their general interests in music. Emphasis is placed through practical activities which include active participation in solo and group performing and accompanying, listening to wide range of genres, styles and cultures.
