International Applicants

You apply direct in the same way as UK applicants. You will need to satisfy our general entry requirements, along with a specified level of ability in English language.

Advice to Applicants

The application form will ask you to provide information related to the course for which you are applying. The admissions process varies somewhat between different programme, so be sure to include all required information when you return your application to SCM.
If your initial application has been successful you will be invited to interview. A decision about an offer is made shortly after interview; we aim to make decisions as soon as possible and ideally within one week of interview.
We do not make unconditional offers unless you have already achieved the standard entry requirements at the point of application (subject to interview performance).

HOW YOUR APPLICATION IS CONSIDERED

  • Knowledge
  • Skills
  • Abilities
  • Interests

In the application we are looking to see evidence of why you wish to study music at diploma or certificate level and evidence of the skills and experiences which will help you to do this.
In lieu of an audition, we ask that you have achieved ABRSM (or equivalent) Grade 8, preferably at Distinction, on your first study. Your Grade 8 can be achieved at any point prior to beginning the course and it is a standard part of our conditional offer.

Mature students returning to education

We welcome applications from mature students and will consider them on an individual basis. We usually interview mature applicants with non-standard qualifications.

Deferrals

Deferrals are normally allowed; however, we do ask applicants to let us know as early as possible if they are intending to defer. This helps us to adjust the number of offers we make, in order to achieve the required number of students in a given year.

Re-applications

If you applied in the previous year and your application was not successful you may apply again. Your application will be considered against the standard course entry criteria for that year of entry. In your new application you should demonstrate how your application has improved. We may draw upon all information from your previous applications or any previous registrations at the University as a student when assessing your suitability for your chosen course.

Transfers

Students wishing to transfer from other institute will be considered on merit, providing we have enough places to accommodate them. Enquiries should be made to the admissions administrator for the subject (see contact details). We will require transcripts and a reference from your tutor.

The application form will ask you to provide information related to the program for which you are applying. The admissions process varies somewhat between different programs, so be sure to include all required information when you return your application to SCM.
